Community Ambassador Programme
Sheffield (South Yorkshire)
Funded by #iwill

ACIS Group is working in partnership with Clarion futures and the Housing Association Youth Network (HAYN) to deliver positive action and support the #iwill campaign.

They are running a 12 month Community Ambassador Programme in partnership with the Woodthorpe Tenants and Residents Association (TARA).

Their main objective is to bring young people living on the Woodthorpe estate in Sheffield together. Over the last couple of months this estate has experienced several gang related attacks resulting in the death of one teenage boy and another injured. Understandably there is a feeling of fear and unease amongst this community. This programme aims to help to overcome this, but also to provide a route to prevention – directly working with young people who may be engaging with or affected by gang culture.

In addition to this, the programme is helping local young people to learn new skills and be a part of something that will benefit their community – gaining a sense of achievement. They have identified community projects that not only matter to them, but also their local community, working together to provide a solution to localised concerns.

Young People are currently being engaged through weekly woodworking sessions. These are really well attended and not only demonstrate their ability to engage with young people, but also the young people’s eagerness to engage.

Likewise, this programme will also enable to nurture the youth workers of the future as all Young Leaders will be supported to complete an NVQ in Youth Work. Equipping them with the skills needed for a successful career in helping and advising other local young people. ACIS will provide a legacy that continues far beyond the length of this project.

ACIS is still recruiting young ambassadors so If you are interested in this programme please contact Hannah Taylor-Dales by email
