AFC Fylde Community Foundation
The AFC Fylde Community Foundation was formed in June 2013. One of the aims of the AFC Fylde Community Foundation is to improve sport participation levels on the Fylde coast, targeting communities who traditionally do not take part in sport on a regular basis and providing a first class visible presence, making a difference in their communities.
Working in partnership with Clarion Futures, the charitable foundation of Clarion Housing Group and The Community Foundation for Lancashire and Merseyside, AFC Fylde has launched two new youth social action programmes as part of the #IWILL campaign.
Each programme is being led by the Foundation’s qualified ‘detached’ youth workers. This means that instead of operating from a building, the youth workers go to places where young people tend to be, encouraging far greater involvement and sign-up.
The youth workers are currently working across the community of Tanterton, providing groups of local young people with the opportunity to become more engaged within the community.
Specifically, The AFC Fylde Community Foundation working in partnership with Places for People Housing, is delivering a 12 month Community Ambassador Programme, which work with young people aged between 7 and 18, providing them with the opportunity to participate in a youth-led programme which provides young people with the opportunity to take responsibility for their local community, and the projects they participate in.
A team of 15 young people has already been recruited who have started the programme carrying out a consultation and identifying local needs. In this year they will deliver a number of core youth social action projects which aim to invest in their local community and build and infrastructure which supports the development of a sustained legacy within the Tanterton community.
